Destroy All Monsters was formed in 2006 to provide Pre-viz and Post-viz services, primarily to the film industry. Managing Director and creative head of the company, Pawl Fulker, has almost 20 years of 3D animation, post production and pre-viz experience and has worked on some of the biggest films to grace cinema screens in recent years.

For those not familiar with Pre-Viz and Post-Viz, a short explanation; Pre-Viz is planning out shots or sequences in a film, using 3d animation software to give a kind of animated storyboard. It can be as rough or as polished as needed and gives everyone involved in the production an idea of how the sequence may look on screen. It’s incredibly useful, as we work in 3d software using very accurate models of the sets and cameras. We can work out, before a single frame is shot, a huge amount of logistical problems usually encountered on set and help fix them. We can print out plans of where cameras, characters and lights may be for particular set ups. It’s a very powerful film making tool. Pre-viz is a fairly new discipline in film making, which has its roots in 3d animation, storyboarding and art direction. It’s primarily a combination of all these roles and as such, needs a certain skill set to deliver results efficiently. All of our artists are well versed in all the main 3d animation packages, 2d compositing software and paint packages. They also have a great understanding of the cinematic process and narrative rules, allowing them to create pre-viz to the highest caliber.

Post-Viz happens after and whilst the shoot is in progress. We take shot plates, and very quickly strip out green/blue screen elements and start to drop in virtual backgrounds and characters. Again it can be as polished as it needs to be. The point is to quickly make sure the director’s vision for each shot is going to be possible to achieve in post production. The Post-Viz is then cut in to the surrounding shots, and everyone can get a good idea if the shot is going to go to post, or if it needs a rethink. We offer a comprehensive Post-viz service.
